CAMINO DE SANTIAGO PACKING LIST

In October of 2023 I have set out to walk one of the more challenging Camino de Santiago - Del Norte in norther Spain. I have done extensive research for the things I should bring with me and have come up with a list of items.

After the walk, I was reflecting on the items decided to share them with the readers in this blog. I hope you will find these helpful as well.

Your backpack is the most important equipment you will carry with you for 30-45 days. Osprey backpack is versatile with numerous pockets and compartments.

This foot massager ball came in handy after some very long days of walking. It doesn't take up much room and is light-weight.

Pair of Columbia pants worked out really well in the rain and cooler temps kicked in. I found that they are very fashion forward in addition to their primary function

Just as important as your back pack is, the next thing to invest in is your shoes! They will carry you 800km after all. Invest in your comfort.

SOLOMON HIKING SHOES

If there's one thing you cannot leave the house, make it this microfiber quick drying towel! Hostels do not provide towels, especially albergues. Looking back - I would get two (one for the shower and one for walking in a hot weather.

If nothing else - these ear plugs are a must! That is if you want to get any kind of quality sleep in an Albergue with 30 other people. When synchronized snoring erupts, you'll be glad you go them.

This head bandana is helpful in hot weather. This can assist with sweat and act as a cover for the forehead, in case you forgot your sunscreen.

No walk is ever achieved (or is it?) without the sun hat. Sun in Spain in October is still strong. Don't let this ruin your walk, I strongly recommend a bright color like yellow or orange. Those are the construction colors and can be seen by drivers far away. Make yourself visible.

SAFARI SUN HAT

Finally I can say when it comes to this item, it may not be the absolute must but a very much nice to have creature comforts. Shower S-hooks are handy not just for the shower (but boy do they bring comfort in the shower) but things as simple as hanging your backpack on the side of the hostel bed. I would not travel anywhere without these now. Grab a few with you for the walk, stash the rest around your house or your other luggage. They are useful!

SHOWER HOOKS

These silicone toe protectors are very handy. Walks are long, your feet will hurt and you will get blisters. Just a reality of walking. Protect your feet so you can continue walking.

SILICONE TOE PROTECTORS

Moisture wicking toe socks. Yes, you read it correctly! What this does is it separates your toes, thus preventing them from chafing and preventing toe blisters.

INJINJI TOE SOCKS

Merino wool has long been know excellent at wicking moisture. Why not bring it with you on your long walks? Light, comfortable and quick drying (something that comes in handy when washing your clothes and dryer is occupied for the rest of the day.
